After the series of events conducted till date by Architectural Sankul, the most exciting heritage walk with a theme- ‘Era- Evolution- Experience’ was conducted on 2nd September, Sunday in collaboration with Central Museum, Nagpur.

This heritage walk started from Bhonda Mahadev Mandir, and headed towards Gowari Memorial, Zero Mile, Nagpur metro, and then to the Central Museum. This walk was organized for Nagpurians with a sole aim to make people aware of Nagpur’s rich heritage. It ideally explored the era from 1818 establishment of Bhonda Mahadev temple to 2018 Nagpur Metro Experience Centre (Mazhi Metro) suitable to the theme for 200 years of Nagpur’s evolution. More than 125 people participated in this heritage walk.

At Bhonda Mahadev temple, the participants experienced the past history as the story unfolded the reason for its establishment and existence. The unique sculptures on the temple were explained in detail by Mr. Virag Sontakke, curator, Central Museum and Mr.Atharva Shivankar. Mr. Ranjan Dandige whose forefather was a minister for the British Residency and for whom the Bhonda Mahadev temple and wada was designed; himself explained the history to the participants. The scale, proportion, role of materials, technology, iconography, etc. were discussed in length by Architect Madhura Rathod. The next spot was Gowari memorial and Smarak where Architect Nitika Ramani narrated the Gowari Stampede history of the year 1994 and Architect Ravi Nafde, Principal, Jhulelal College of Architecture, explained the concept of the design.

The participants were found excited to experience the zero Mile by understanding facts and history of its existence.

Mr. Atharva Shivankar and Architect Himali Hardas directed the crowd and helped participants’ experience the Mazhi Metro Experience Centre located next to Zero Mile. The future of Nagpur city was discussed explicitly.

At the central museum, Mr. Virag Sontakke, shaded light on museum’s history and the special exhibition was appreciated by the participants. The exhibition displayed the sketching-painting, photography of the Sonegaon Heritage Walk (conducted by Architectural Sankul on 5th August 2018) along with Nagardhan excavation photographs and Jhulelal college student’s design project sheets based on Museum.
