ARCHITECTURAL SANKUL (AS) – Heritage Wing: SANSKRITI conducted a three days Heritage Workshop, from 09.12.19 to 11.12.19 at Priyadarshini Institute of Architecture & Design Studies (PIADS), Nagpur. Ar. Nitika S. Ramani, Co-founder conducted the workshop under the guidance of Dr. Madhura Rathod, Co-founder. The aim of the workshop was to sensitize students about heritage of Nagpur and approaches of heritage documentation. The focus was on detail heritage documentation of Shiv Mandir premises, Indulibagh, Nagpur.
30 B.Arch. students of 2nd and 3rd year participated in the workshop.
Ar. Rashmi Dande and Ar. Aparna Tarar were the coordinators of the workshop from PIADS.
Day 1
Day 1 started with an introductory session followed by a ice breaker activity. Students were asked to do mind mapping for the term “Heritage”. This reflected their basic and pre conceived ideas about “Heritage”. Ar. Nitika S. Ramani followed up with the formal presentation about Heritage, importance of heritage studies, etc. Ar. Ramani started the presentation with a quote “Humare beete kal ki pukar mai hi, humare aaj ki awaz chupi hai” – Epic Channel. Students were once again asked to redo the mind mapping and the attempt to take students from ‘not so known to well know’ was clearly reflected the second time.
The next presentation explicitly elaborated on Nagpur – its origin, evolution, development, rich heritage and need of preservation, restoration and conservation. Speaking on the topic, Ar. Ramani said “The heart of any city, with a history and culture worth boasting of, is often packed with tangible reminders of its past glory. The same is true for the old part of Nagpur – Mahal. Having been the seat of the royal families since centuries, the area abounds with structures that help us understand our heritage better.
Students were introduced to the topic of architecture documentation and heritage documentation in the next presentation. Ways and techniques of heritage documentation were explained through documentation work/ projects done by AS.
The students were given a hands on activity to document PIADS college premises that were related intelligently with the documentation work to be undertaken on day 2 at Indulibagh premises .relating it with the temple.
At the end of day 1 students learnt in detail about heritage, Nagpur, documentation techniques and practical was done to prepare students for actual site documentation.
